Tomorrow- or today if you delineate days according to clocks; I’m counting sleep cycles and sunrises- tomorrow they announce the winner of the 1969 CD cover design contest. I’ve spent more time, money, and energy on it than I should have- finding and borrowing a bicycle from a stranger, purchasing two vintage stars and stripes, easy rider motorcycle helmets via ebay, invading friends’ studio space to shoot dozens of pictures, then getting my own backdrops, setting up shop in the garage and shooting some more. I spent hours in Photoshop and Illustrator and Modo, when I should have been sleeping, and in the end, I submitted eight separate designs.

I’m trying to not get my hopes up, but I’d be lying if I said I’m not going to be disappointed if I don’t win.

Most of the competition is worthless, amateur slop, built by first time MS Paint users; People who think creating a logo means choosing a font. But there are a handful of respectable entries, and two or three that are quite good.

And there are no prizes for second place. Actually, there are no prizes for first place, either. Just brag rights. But I’ve got so much invested in it I’m not sure how devastated I’ll be if I lose.

Fingers crossed.
